Discussing Steven Salaita case on WBEZ's Morning Shift Sept. 11, 2014

The twin issues of freedom of speech and academic freedom reached the boiling point Thursday when the Board of Trustees at the University of Illinois’ Urbana-Champaign voted to not to hire a professor. Over the summer in a number of tweets, Steven Salaita was highly critical of Israel in its war in Gaza. The tweets led to the school’s Chancellor rescinding his tenured position due to begin this fall; an action that led to student and faculty backlash. We get the latest on the controversy from Illinois Public Radio’s Hannah Meisel. Photo Courtesy of Facebook

The morning after the University of Illinois' Board of Trustees affirmed they would not hire controversial professor Steven Salaita, WBEZ had me on for a live interview during its morning talk show. Background on the Salaita case can be found here on willnews.org.
